What are Rugby Balls made of?

Rugby Balls Composition
A rugby ball is essentially made out of several layers of threaded rubber and polyester, holding inside an inflatable latex bladder with an external valve that's used to inflate the ball.
The main 3 components of a Rugby Ball are:
Bladder
Silver Fern Sport only uses Hi-Air Retention Bladders to ensure you are not continually having to inflate your balls. That being said, all bladders lose pressure over time due to their semi porous nature, this can't be avoided.
Rubber Composition
The better the quality of the composition, the softer the rubber, the better the performance. However this performance is offset by durability. Trainer balls perform worse than a match ball but they last for much longer, this is why trainer balls don’t have the same grip and feel as an expensive match ball.
Grip Pattern
The grip pattern of the rubber is a key element of a rugby ball, this comes in different shapes, size and sharpness depending on the brand. We have done extensive testing to come up with our grip patterns and believe they provide excellent grip in all situations.
