No more Contact in Junior Rugby League for upcoming seasons

Rugby Football League is introducing 44 changes, recommended by the sport's Brain Health and Clinical Advisory Group Sub-Committees, aiming to make the sport safer and more accessible at all levels. Full detail on the RFL website.

Some of the 44 changes relate to Junior age groups, three of them will have contact Rugby League replaced by Touch or Tag (Also known as Flag or Rippa Rugby) in a stepped approach:

  • U6s and U7s starting from the 2024 season.
  • U8s starting from the 2025 season.
  • U9s starting from the 2026 season.

This means no more tackling for our Minis! Instead, they'll have to start snatching some flags :)

We have a bunch of coaching videos for Tag/Flag/Rippa Rugby in our free coaching videos platform, Coaches Corner. Sign up for free and discover cool exercises for your team.
